trimming for success with Karen
You've made it off the wheel. Now what?
Trimming is where pots transform from clunky to elegant. In this 2 hour skill-building workshop, you'll learn how to confidently trim your work, create clean foot rings, reduce excess weight, and troubleshoot common trimming mistakes.
Bring 3–5 leather hard pieces of your own to trim during class. We'll also provide a few practice pieces so you can experiment with new techniques before working on your own pottery.
We'll cover:
How to use chucks to trim difficult forms
Creating clean and intentional foot rings
Weight reduction techniques
Common trimming mistakes and how to avoid them
Tools, setup, and trimming best practices
A few practice leather hard pieces will be provided for learning purposes and will not be kept.
This workshop focuses on developing trimming skills and confidence rather than creating a finished product. You'll spend time practicing, experimenting, and refining techniques that you can apply to future work. You may take home any unfired pieces you create. Firing fees and glazing are not included.
Finishing Option
Want to keep your piece? Non-members may return to glaze paint their piece for $30 per piece under 8" in every dimension.
