Ready to take your wheel throwing to new heights?
In this 2.5 hour skill-building workshop, you'll learn the techniques potters use to create taller, stronger forms on the wheel. Whether you've struggled with collapsing walls, uneven cylinders, or simply want to challenge yourself beyond mugs and bowls, this workshop will help you build confidence throwing larger pieces.
We'll cover:
Compression techniques for stronger forms
Proper collaring to gain height
How and when to use ribs for support and shaping
Strategies for throwing with larger amounts of clay
Each student will receive 12 pounds of fresh clay (not reclaim), enough to make several larger forms. We recommend dividing your clay into either three 4 pound portions or two 6 pound portions.
This workshop focuses on developing trimming skills and confidence rather than creating a finished product. You'll spend time practicing, experimenting, and refining techniques that you can apply to future work. You may take home your clay or any unfired pieces you create. Firing fees and glazing are not included.
Want to keep your piece? Non-members may return to glaze paint their piece for $30 per piece under 8" in every dimension.
