In this specialty surface-design workshop, you’ll learn how to prepare your glazed pieces, plan your designs, and safely apply metallic overglazes before their third and final firing. Gold and platinum lusters contain real precious metals and develop a brilliant metallic finish after firing. This workshop will focus on intentional accents, such as rims, handles, fine lines, and small decorative details, rather than full coverage.
You don’t need to be a potter to participate! This workshop is also open to à la mud customers who would like to add metallic details to pottery they previously painted at our studio.

Includes: Instruction, use of gold and platinum lusters, and luster firing
Pickup: You’ll receive an email approximately two weeks later when your finished pieces are ready.
Your pieces to luster
Choose one of the following:
Up to 3 medium pieces—approximately mug-sized and no larger than 6 inches in any direction
Up to 5 small pieces, such as charms, jewelry dishes, ornaments, or teacups
Wide serving bowls, tall vases, and platters require advance approval and may count as multiple pieces.
What PPE Students Need to Bring:
A properly fitted respirator equipped with cartridges rated for organic vapors, such as this one.
Important Notes
Gold and platinum are limited to decorative accents only. If you require additional luster, 2g bottles will be available for purchase.
Lustered pieces are not microwave-safe.
Handwashing is recommended to preserve the metallic finish.
