intro to linocut with Michaela
Learn to create a linocut print from start to finish in this beginner-friendly workshop. You’ll sketch or choose a design, transfer it to a 4×6-inch lino block, carve your image, and print it on paper.
What to bring:
You’re welcome to bring a design to carve. For the best experience, choose a simple, high-contrast design that will fit on the block; remember that your print will be a mirror image. If you’re still looking for inspiration, the instructor will have ideas to help you get started. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting ink on, and bring a water bottle. No prior printmaking experience is needed.
What’s included:
All materials and tools are provided, including a 4×6-inch lino block, carving tool, bench hook, baren, inks, and printmaking paper. You’ll leave with your carved block and your finished prints.
About the artist: Michaela Dyer
I’m a Vancouver, Washington-based printmaker and multimedia artist. After practicing linocut for four years, I’m excited to share the process and techniques I’ve learned. I often use my designs to upcycle secondhand items, and I love linocut for its versatility and meditative quality. I hope you’ll leave with a new skill—and a little of my love for the craft.
Ages 13+ and attendees under 18 should be accompanied by an adult.
